That label isn't self-reported — it's grounded in a formal comparative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted under ISO 14040/14044 standards and reviewed by a panel of three independent experts.
The findings: compared to a functionally equivalent quantity of silica gel, Desi Pak ECO has a 53% lower global warming impact — and similar advantages across human health, ecosystem quality, and resource use.
The reason is straightforward. Silica gel is a synthetic material produced through an energy- and carbon-intensive manufacturing process. Bentonite clay, by contrast, is naturally occurring and extracted through surface mining, requiring only granulation, drying, and grading before use. The packaging — bio-based paper with water-based adhesives — completes the picture.
Clariant also commits to restoring all bentonite mining areas to equal or better condition after extraction is complete. From source to shelf, the environmental footprint is meaningfully smaller.
